Short Description

The D-SIM-42 is an exact replica of a real Diamond DA-42 aircraft. Usually this flight simulator is used to train pilots. At the University of Salzburg it is used to evaluate future aeronautical concepts like datalink communication and automation supported procedures.
The Flight Simulator is an exact replica of a real Diamond DA-42 aircraft. Three projectors beam the moving pictures of the scenery on the 180° curved canvas to create the feeling of a moving scenery for the pilot.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The Diamond DA-42 Simulator features a new generation of Commercial Pilot Training, bei emulating a highly realistic air traffic control environment based on detailed simulation of the European / world-wide air traffic, which is generated by NAVSIM ATM / ATC / CNS Simulator. On the basis of automatic speech recognition (ASR), the pilot in training communicates by voice (emulated VHF channels) - as usual today - with the Air Traffic COntroller (ATCO), based on ICAO Doc. 4444 Phraseology. The Virtual ATC (NAVSIM/SATCE: Simulated Air Traffic Control Environment) provides instructions and guidance as in real life.
In addition the reality level of the simulator is further increased, by simulating realistic air traffic ("otherships"), which are displayed both in the scenery as well as in the cockpit instruments.
