Short Description

Device for chemical analysis on solid materials. To prepare the samples, rocks must be cut and polished. These thin sections are thoroughly examined with a polarization microscope to find the desired positions. Before being installed in the sample chamber, they are vaporized with carbon in a special vapor deposition plant. A finely focused electron beam is then directed to the sample and stimulates a series of signals. For the mineral analysis, the characteristic X-rays are used, and the secondary and backscatter electrons are detected for the surface texture as well as for possible zonations. X-ray mapping allows statements on zoning or homogeneity distributions in minerals or materials. The probe is equipped with 4 spectrometers, each with 2 analyzer crystals and 1 EDS system. The system is fully automatic. The quantitative mineral analyzes are expected with different ZAF corrections.
