BioImaging Austria - CMI (Correlated Multimodal Imaging Node Austria)

Vienna | Website

Short Description

CMI is the official Austrian Euro-Bioimaging initiative of leading imaging experts in Austria. It was established as a consortium of eight universities and research institutes in and around Vienna to foster correlated multimodal imaging across scales in life sciences. Correlated imaging gathers information about the specimen with two or more complementary modalities that – sequentially combined – create a highly informative, composite view of the sample.

CMI offers a multitude of basic and high-end state-of-the-art imaging technologies from MRI to super-resolution microscopy as stand-alone technologies, numerous multimodal correlated imaging pipelines, and various support services, such as data and image analysis, to researchers and scientists on a national and international level. Imaging techniques at CMI span the entire resolution range of interest for preclinical and biological studies, and provide complementary sample information about structure, function and molecular composition. The more than 35 imaging techniques allow both in- and ex-vivo imaging and molecular analysis. Particularly, CMI is developing and setting up entirely new multimodal workflows at the forefront of correlated imaging, which can involve more than two imaging modalities and explicitly go beyond CLEM (Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy) and hybrid imaging.
