Short Description
These devices are used for the investigation and structure elucidation of both natural and synthetic polymers, such as peptides, proteins, carbohydrates, but also novel synthetic polymers from research. Furthermore, it is possible to determine the presence of certain analytes in a location-dependent manner, i.e. to perform mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) to determine concentration gradients in materials or the presence of medically relevant molecules in biological sections (tumor markers in tissues, etc). In addition to these possibilities, it will also be used for the structural elucidation of new synthetic materials and integrated into existing infrastructure (coupling with polymer chromatography).

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure
The device is an effective extension of the existing possibilities of polymer characterization at JKU and is an enrichment for many working groups from the faculties of chemistry and plastics engineering, physics, as well as medicine, in particular all analytically and synthetically working chemistry institutes, biophysics, ZONA, Soft Matter Physics, ZML.
