Short Description
The period from about 375 A.D. to about 1000 A.D. can be summarized in the appr. 70.000 objects in the migration period and early medieval collection. It contains evidence of the history of the Huns, Lombards, Avars and Slavs during this period of great migratory movements and numerous armed conflicts.
Finds in the collection come from all over the territory of the former Habsburg Empire Austria-Hungary. They are still supplemented by new finds found from excavations in Vienna and Lower Austria.
