Short Description

The Connex3 Objet 500 system enables by means of additive manufacturing 3-dimensional reconstructions from tomographic images (CT, MRT, 3D sonography,...) and CAD data. In addition to the visualization of complex medical models, the system is used for manufacturing of parts, which cannot be produced using CNC techniques. The manufactured parts consist of photopolymers, whose mechanical properties and color can be defined in the printing process starting from from three basic materials. This process thus allows mimicking realistic anatomical features and manufacturing of functional models.

Research Services

This 3D printing system can be used for the production of multimaterial polymer parts. It is is offered as part of the "Service for Researchers" available at the Medical University of Vienna. For the use of this technology, an initial contact for feasibility and clarification of open questions is required.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The research group "Additive Manufacturing for Medical Research" represents the first contact from planning and implementing projects. It consists of biomedical engineers (mechanics/electronics) and material engineers. For specific problems, colleagues from almost all fields of physics and technology can be involved in the interdisciplinary work at the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering and within the Medical University of Vienna.
