Short Description

The ICAROS Lab: Interactive, Collaborative, Adaptive Robotic Systems Lab basically consists of four Niryo.NED collaborative robots which can be equipped with different grippers (large, small, adaptive, vacuum, magnetic). The robots are lightweight, allowing for quick relocation and composition to simulate new production/environmental scenarios.

At the same time, the Niryo.NEDs feature industry-standard software and control protocols. The software and supporting material provided with the Niryo.NED make it easy to get started, thus enabling experiments to be carried out even with non-robotics experts, such as e.g. B. Students, who then deal with the interaction, configuration or even programming of the robots and their environment.

The Niryo.NED robots are designed to interact with people, as their small size, mass, power, range and speed mean that there is no risk of injury and therefore no separate safety zone is necessary. Furthermore, a vision system is integrated which enables the recognition of predefined objects by means of a camera on the arm and thus allows another type of interaction.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure

The current research focus in the context of using the NIRYO.NED robots lies in the integration with production process descriptions and the automatic recognition of user interactions in order to support context-driven work steps. The research methods focus on the experimental development of new assistance mechanisms in production.
