Short Description
The FEI ESEM XL30 is a scanning electron microscope with variable pressure control and X-ray microanalysis. It is versatile in biological research. The maximum resolution, the device operated with a tungsten cathode, is a maximum of 3.5nm. The acceleration voltage can be varied in the range of 0.2 - 40 kV.

Methods & Expertise for Research Infrastructure
-Vascular- and Tumors Research: Investigation of vascular corrosion casts with respect to the growth and development of blood vessels in organs and tissues.
-Analysis of the vasa vasorum, the large human vena saphena with vascular corrosion casts and its investigation using the 3D -morphometry system M3. Morphometric / stereological analyzes in all areas mentioned;
-Various fine structure studies on artropoda in the taxonomic and ecological context.
A central research area is also the fine-structure analysis of cellular defense processes in neutrophil granulocytes-mediated inflammatory reactions in chronic diseases of humans, especially with regard to formation NETs (neutrophil extracellular traps). This affects diseases such as cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis), COPD and periodontal disease (also associated with rheumatoid arthritis).
In the field of material research, fracture analyzes of material parts are carried out.
