Short Description

Pyrolysis is used to determine the composition complex, solid samples. A few microgram sample of are heated abruptly to several hundred degrees in a protective atmosphere. The sample breaks apart into characteristic fragments that allow the determination of the sample's composition. The fragments are detected by mass spectrometry or by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry
